Dhaka – The United States reaffirms its continued support for Bangladesh’s ongoing democratic transition.
Tracy Ann Jacobson, the new charge d'affaires of the US Embassy in Dhaka, conveyed this view when she met Foreign Affairs Adviser Tuhid Hussain at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday.
Jacobson praised the interim government's continued efforts to build consensus among political parties.
She said she was highly optimistic about Bangladesh's current economic and financial reforms to achieve macroeconomic stability and sound economic fundamentals.
During their first courtesy call, they confirmed their commitment to deepening Bangladesh-US relations in areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment, human rights, labor reforms and the repatriation of forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals (the Rohingya).
The foreign adviser briefed the CDA on the progress of ongoing reform activities and reiterated the interim government's commitment to the conduct of free, fair and credible elections expressed by the chief adviser.
He thanked the U.S. government for its appreciation and support for the interim government's reform actions.
The foreign adviser expressed that he would provide full support during her tenure and wished that relations between the two countries would reach new heights during her tenure.
