The country is expected to expand trade with the GCC and the Middle East.

According to BMI, despite recent U.S. sanctions, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is expected to maintain a medical device trade relationship with Iran.

On February 4, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order called “Restore the maximum pressure on Iran.” The impact of the order on the trade in medical equipment is unclear, but past sanctions have allowed the UAE to promote re-exports to Iran.

The UAE is also expected to expand its medical equipment trade with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the Middle East market.

Currently, three GCC countries and two other Middle East countries rank among the top five medical device export destinations in the UAE.

“The tight geographical location means that trade costs may be relatively low, which provides an advantage over imports from India or mainland China,” the report said.
