Another baby dies in listeria outbreak linked to ready-to-eat meat and poultry products

Date:

A second baby has died in an eight-state listeria outbreak linked to recalled Yu Shang Food ready-to-eat meat and poultry products, according to federal health officials. The products are sold online and at retail locations nationwide, according to federal health officials.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in its latest update that 19 cases have been confirmed, with 17 people hospitalized. States where the illness has been confirmed include: California, Georgia, Illinois, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Oregon and Tennessee.

The CDC says seven of these illnesses are associated with pregnancy.

In California, a mother and her twins became ill and both infants died, but since Listeria was only found in samples from the mother and one of her twins, only the mother and one of her twins were among the confirmed cases. twins.

In Tennessee, a mother and her baby fell ill and the baby died.

The agency said the patient's samples were collected between October 24, 2021, and October 28, 2024.

The CDC said the outbreak may be more severe than reported because people who became sick may not have been tested for listeria. It takes 3 to 4 weeks to determine if someone is involved in an outbreak.

Listeria is especially harmful to pregnant women, people 65 or older, and people with weakened immune systems.

According to reports, people affected by the epidemic purchased food from multiple stores and online selling Yushang Food.

Officials urge those who have the recalled product to throw it away or return it. The recalled products were produced before October 28, 2024, and involve products with “Yushang” or “Yushang” (enterprise number “P46684” or “EST.M46684”) on the label.
