Trump meets with CEO and says he's 'interested' in TikTok

Date:

U.S. President-elect Trump met with TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew at his Mar-a-Lago club on Monday.

“We're going to look at TikTok,” Trump told reporters before meeting Zhou when asked about a potential ban.

“You know, I have a warm place in my heart for TikTok,” he said, according to CNBC.

The short-form video app is believed to have played a major role in Trump's victory, boosting his performance among young voters. Trump vowed during the campaign that he would not allow TikTok to be banned in the United States.

Lawyers for TikTok on Monday asked the U.S. Supreme Court to block a law that would require the app to divest from its Chinese parent company ByteDance or face a ban in the country.

“This bill would shut down one of America's most popular speech platforms just one day before the presidential inauguration,” they said in a filing.
