Chinese commerce officials have proposed an export ban on lithium technology used to process electric vehicle batteries.

Are the battery company's plans also under threat?
Proposed expansion and revision of restrictions on technologies used to extract and process lithium or prepare battery components could also hinder overseas expansion plans of major Chinese battery manufacturers, including Ningde eraGuoxuan and Yiwei Lithium Energy.
Some technologies for extracting gallium will also be limited.
Thursday's announcement did not say when the proposed changes, which are open for public comment until Feb. 1, will take effect.
