Manila – Four in 10 Filipinos support the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte, according to a recent survey conducted by Social Weather Stations (SWS) in partnership with Stratbase Group.
The survey, conducted from December 12 to 18, 2024, showed that 41% of Filipinos support the impeachment of the vice president, while 35% disagree and 19% are undecided. The remaining 5% said they “don't know enough” about the issue.

Calls for Duterte's impeachment have been strongest outside Metro Manila on the island of Luzon, with 50% supporting her removal and 25% disapproving, the poll showed. Only 18% were undecided and 7% were not informed enough.

This was followed by Metro Manila, where 45% agreed with the impeachment call. Nearly 37% disagreed, and only 14% said they were undecided. The remaining 4% said they didn't know enough.
Opposition was highest in Mindanao, with 56 percent opposed and 22 percent in support. The undecided rate in the region was 18%, and the uninformed rate was 4%.
Visayas had the highest proportion of undecided respondents at 24%, while 40% agreed, 33% disagreed and 4% did not know enough.
Among socioeconomic classes, support for impeachment is strongest among those in the ABC class, with 50% agreeing, 34% disapproving and 14% undecided.
Opposition to impeachment is strongest in Class E, with a disapproval rate of 36%; however, the area's approval rate is 37%, while the undecided rate is 20%.

Across industries, 2% of Class ABC, 5% of Class D and 7% of Class E said they lacked knowledge of the issue.
The survey results also show that 46% of Filipinos believe that the inexplicable expenditure of confidential funds by the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education may be the best basis for impeaching Duterte.
Her refusal to answer an inquiry into these funds is also a concern for 36% of Filipinos.
Allegations of unexplained ill-gotten gains in her Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) and threats to the lives of prominent figures, including President Marcos, also topped the list with 25% and 24% of Filipinos respectively. . Believing them separately could form the basis for her impeachment.
Other questions
Other accusations include Duterte’s involvement in extrajudicial killings while she was mayor of Davao (23%), her failure to condemn China’s aggression in the West Philippine Sea (13%), her lack of self-control (12%), her lack of self-control in Traveled to Germany during Typhoon Karina (11%) and ordered subordinates to prepare performance reports on the allocation of classified and intelligence funds, with forged receipts and documents attached (11%).
About 17% of Filipinos said that none of the above accusations could be used as a basis to impeach her.
The survey involved 2,160 respondents and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
