Part of former Grafton prison to be acquired to support upgrade

The redevelopment of Australia's Grafton Base Hospital has progressed with the acquisition of part of the former Grafton Prison from the New South Wales Property Development Corporation.

The development application approved by the Northern Area Planning Panel allows for the refurbishment of two administration buildings to the north-east of the former minimum security part of the prison.

The blocks will be transformed into modern administrative, office and training facilities.

At the same time, clinical services will remain on the existing Grafton Hospital site.

Planning and design work is underway on the major redevelopment project, which will include a new three-storey emergency services building housing the emergency department, emergency short stay unit, medical imaging and MRI facilities and inpatient wards.
