Lee Se Young misses Na In Woo in “Motel California”

Date:

California Motel is the name of a motel in a Korean drama California Motel. It might be a nice place to visit, but Kangxi, one of the two main characters in the show, would definitely not want to live there. Kangxi, played by Lee Se-young, grew up in a motel where her father often forgot to pay the bill and guests were rarely on their best behavior. Kangxi's neighbors thought she was a troublemaker and she was really unhappy with her. She feels different from her friends, and not just because she's staying in a chaotic motel. Her hazel eyes and freckles illustrate her mixed-race heritage, which means she faces discrimination.

Kang-hee's best childhood friend is the lovable, overweight Yeon-soo, played by thick-cushioned Na In-woo. Yeon-soo said in elementary school that they would get married one day, but she thought it was a stupid idea. It's just that his feelings will never change. When they were in high school, Kangxi was eager to leave her small town for a university in Seoul. Before leaving, she asks Yeon-soo to promise that he will never change. He should never lose weight. He should never take off his glasses or smile at anyone the way he smiled at her. She liked him for who he was. Just not enough to stay.

They will all inevitably change in some way over the next decade. Success in Seoul was more elusive than Kangxi imagined. Without a top university on her resume, she would have had a hard time finding a good job, and she still faced discrimination because of her mixed-race heritage. Ten years later, she is less trusting than when she went to Seoul. Although she vowed never to return home, she misses Yeon-soo and often imagines seeing him on the city streets.

Yeon-soo now works as a veterinarian in her hometown. He lost weight and wore contact lenses, but his feelings for Kangxi did not change. He spends his free time in Seoul hoping to meet her. Although Yeon-soo silently misses the absent Kangxi, he is considered an eligible bachelor and the neighbors are eager to match him. They also suggested that he had no relationship with Kangxi.

California Motel It's a love story, but it's also a story about acceptance and tolerance. As two people who have to deal with discrimination and various forms of bullying, Kang Hee and Yeon Soo offer an engaging parable about not letting other people's negative opinions define you.

Lee and Na have undeniable chemistry, even as their characters drift away from each other. Both actors reliably display on-screen chemistry with their previous co-stars.
