Dhaka – Local elections will no longer be conducted using party symbols, said Tofail Ahmed, chief professor of the Local Government Reform Commission.
“Local government reforms will include proposals related to laws, structures and service activities,” he said during a meeting on the subject held at the Singair upazila parishad conference room in Manikganj here today.
“We are engaging with stakeholders and gathering their input. Based on these inputs, we will implement positive changes in all areas of the local government system.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Manowar Hossain Molla, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Wares, Upazila Nirbahi Inspector Kam Md Kamrul Hasan Sohag and members of the Election Commission also spoke.
Speakers criticized the previous government for politicizing local elections, emphasizing issues such as party symbol distribution and voter manipulation.
They stressed the need to eliminate these problems and conduct fair elections.
A total of 103 representatives from all walks of life, including former local people's representatives and members of political parties, participated in the exchange of opinions organized by the Local Government Reform Committee.
