Luigi Mangione pleads not guilty to murder and terrorism charges in CEO murder case

Minneapolis — UnitedHealth Group announced Thursday that a longtime employee has been named the new leader of its health insurance division, nearly two months after the incident. Former CEO Brian Thompson was killed.

Tim Noel, who joined UHG in 2007 and most recently served as CEO of UnitedHealthcare's Medicare and Retirement division, will become UnitedHealthcare's chief executive officer.

“He brings unparalleled experience to this position, a proven track record and a deep commitment to improving the way healthcare works for consumers, physicians, employers, governments and our other partners,” UHG said in a statement.

Thompson, 50, was heading to a UnitedHealth Group Investor Conference In early December, a gunman shot him with a silencer-equipped pistol at the Hilton City Center Hotel. thompson recently Lives in Maple Grove, Minnesota.

After five days of manhunt, Luigi MangioneThe 26-year-old was arrested at a McDonald's restaurant in Altoona, Pa., after an employee called police. He was later charged with multiple murders in New York.

The NYPD told CBS News there is no indication Mangione is a United Healthcare customer.

Officials believe Mangione may have targeted the company because it is the largest health insurance company in the United States.
