It supports MedTech innovators to bring products to market and connect with local manufacturers.
The national initiative Medtech catapult, led by A*Star, has been launched in Biopolis.
The $38 million initiative was first announced during the March 2024 Supply Debate Committee, aiming to accelerate the development and commercialization of high-value life science tools and medical devices.
“Through purposeful productivity, our national platforms, such as Medtech catapult guide MedTech Innovations, from conception to regulatory approval and scalable manufacturing, ensuring they are ready,” Assistant CEO of A*Star CEO Irene Cheong said.
In its first year, Medtech catapults supported projects such as Castomize’s orthopaedic castings (4D printed orthopaedic formal wrist arrays), as well as Dornier Medtech’s intelligent system for enhanced laser Laser Lithotripsy (Kidney Stone Treatment).
Additionally, MedTech Catapults launched a catalog of local suppliers and contract manufacturers titled “MedTech Manufacturing in Singapore: Commitment to Excellence in Engineering”.
The catalog is jointly supported by the Ministry of Trade and Industry, A* Star, Singapore Enterprises (Enterprise), Singapore Economic Development Council and Singapore Precision Engineering and Technology Association, highlighting the differentiated functions of local manufacturers.
It provides an overview of local capabilities and helps MedTech product owners find potential local partners to innovate together and expand production effectively. Additionally, it will be updated regularly to connect MedTech innovators to the right manufacturing partners.
