Dhaka – A group of private university students said yesterday that they will initiate a Dhaka lockdown on Friday if the newly announced Bangladesh Gonotanttrik Chhatra Sangsad (BGC) is not dissolved.
“If our needs are not met, we will continue to lock down,” said MJH Manju, convener of the private university sector of the anti-discrimination student movement.
He also announced plans to protest at private universities today.
The announcement came during a lockdown last night in front of Rupayan Tower in Banglamotor.
Yesterday afternoon, after the attack on students by BGCS supporters at Madhur Canteen of Dhaka University.
Tensions among private university students who played a major role in the July uprising found themselves being excluded from the newly formed committee. In response, they demanded immediate disbandment.
Supporters of the group allegedly attacked them when they called out slogans against new student groups.
In revenge, the excited students blocked the road in front of Rupayan Tower from 9:45 pm to 10:45 pm, causing huge traffic congestion in the area.
