Tracking Shinawatra's hidden asset dispute

Date:

In a previous defense of the Constitutional Court, Thaksin famously argued that he had made an “honest mistake.” In an extremely controversial 8-7 ruling, the court ruled that Thaksin did not intentionally make a false asset declaration, despite the serious public criticism at the time.

While this marked the end of the first hidden suite, a second hidden controversy later emerged. This ultimately led to a Supreme Court ruling in the Criminal Office of the Political Office, leading to a 46 billion watts of asset-claimed case against Thaksin.

Paetongtarn's PN holdings and comparison with Thaksin's asset statement

The latest issue revolves around Paetongtarn disclosed nine-term notes (PNS) in the liabilities portion of its asset declaration, worth more than THB 4.4 billion. It is worth noting that all five people listed on the PNS are closely related family members of Paetontarn.

The case is compared with Thaksin's past asset statement, when he reported a “loan” of more than 5 billion baht to his son and sister.

When Thaksin first served as prime minister in 2001, he announced a loan of 429.2 million baht, of which 409 million baht was lent to his son Panthongtae. Meanwhile, his ex-wife Khunying Potjaman reported that the loan totaled THB 6,787,638,193 with THB 5,056,348,840, and borrowed Panthongtae.

After serving as Education Minister for Chavalit Yongchaiyudh Gen and completing a mandatory announcement period of one year, Thaksin reported a loan of 429.2 million baht, 429.0 million baht lent Panthongtae, loaned Panthongtae, and borrowed 200 million baht from his sister Yingluck Shinawatra, and became prime minister in 2011.

After Thaksin served as prime minister in 2005, he announced a loan of 409.2 million baht to Panthongtae. Meanwhile, Khunying Potjaman reported that Panthongtae's outstanding debt had dropped to 2.595 billion baht from the initial reported 5 billion baht in 2001.

But, especially surprising, just one year later in 2006, when Thaksin stepped down as prime minister, he did not report any outstanding loans. Meanwhile, Khunying Potjaman announced only 28 million baht in the loan.

This shows that the 409.2 million baht Thaksin lent to Panthongtae and the remaining 25.95 billion baht Khunying Potjaman lent to Panthongtae have completely disappeared.
