Four of the seven abstentions came from Democratic MPs, the party’s secretary-general, Dechit Khaothong, told the press after a vote of unconfidence.
Asked if the party had notified the government in advance about the four abstentions, Dechit explained that the party planned to initiate a resolution when a vote of unconfidence was not in line, but four MPs demanded that their abstentions be exercised.
Asked whether abstentions would affect the legislative process of the government coalition, Dedit said MPs could exercise their rights in unconfident debates, but they should follow the party’s resolutions on legislation.
He said that in the past, the four MPs have supported the government's draft legislation.
