The Switch 2 has a “multi-lingual” variant in Japan.
Nintendo
One of the weird aspects of the Switch 2 announcement is the quiet news that the special “multi-language” Switch 2 is sold online in Japan.
To clarify, Japan's regular switch 2 will be available in stores for 49,980 yen (or about $339 at current exchange rates). However, this version is only in Japanese and will only support Japanese games.
Given that the first switch completely locked the zone lock in 2017, it seems odd that Nintendo will return to this zone again in the initials.
I did contact Nintendo for a formal statement and I received this answer.
“The Japanese Language System (Japan only) is available only on the Japanese market. It only supports Japanese as a system language, has restrictions on Nintendo account to link, and only access to Nintendo eShop in Japan. Nintendo Switch 2 multilingual system, used only in the world, this is the same model as other models in the world, it is MSS; 69, 99, 99, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9,
This is a fairly simple answer, but interestingly, the multilingual system is the basic model for other regions.

With that in mind, you can see the widespread popularity of the original switch and the relatively weak yen means scalpers have been killing people online.
Knowing they have no zone and can play all the games, sell Japanese systems at huge price points.
So Nintendo's move to lock in cheaper Japanese versions by locking it in international sales in Japanese games feels like a way to oppose the skimmed man who currently plays a role in the current conversion.
This increased console pricing in Japan also aligns it with the PlayStation 5, and I don't think it's accidental either.
The only gain is that the Japanese multilingual switch 2 is currently a lottery. Winners will be announced on April 24 before the release on June 5.
Unfortunately, the Switch 2 has to go this route to fight back against Japanese castings, but at least we are still getting a regular zone-free console.
