College students from all over Bangladesh join the global strike together with Gaza

Dhaka – In response to the global strike call on 7 April 2025, Bangladeshi students from all over the country announced that they will join the sport in unity with the people of Gaza.

The strike demanded the cessation of all academic and professional activities in protest of ongoing violence in the region.

General students from several institutions, including BRAC University (BRACU), Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), Daffodil International University (DIU), Dhaka University (DU), Green University of Bangladesh (GUB), Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), and Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) have penned statements declaring their support for the strike.

Calls for the movement emerged amid the escalation of violence by the Israeli military in Gaza.

According to Al Jazeera, at least 46 Palestinians have died in the last 24 hours alone due to Israeli strikes. The Ministry of Health said the death toll since October 2023 is currently 50,695.

Dhaka University

Dhaka University has at least 12 departments and the School of Law and Fine Arts announced abstention and examinations on April 7, expressing solidarity with the global community against Israel’s aggression in Gaza.

As of 7:30 pm, departments and institutions calling for boycott include the Academy of Fine Arts, Law School, Institute of Education and Research (IER), and the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), Nuclear Engineering, Psychology, Psychology, Islamic and Islamic Studies, Islamic Studies, Islamic Studies, Islamic Studies, Communication Barriers, Arabic, Social Sciences, Political Science, Buddhism, Buddhism and Buddhism and Buddhist and Buddhist studies.

Several other departments at Dhaka University expressed solidarity with the global demonstrations without boycotting the course.

Student organization joins

In a video message posted on Facebook, Meghmallar Bose, president of the Commission of Dhaka University in Bangladesh, head of Ganotanttrik Chhatra Jote, urging students from all educational institutions in Bangladesh to ensure that there are no classes and no open schools by ensuring that the strike is successful.

Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal also criticized Israel's “barbarian genocide” in Gaza and Rafah in a press release released tonight and announced a plan of protest. The BNP-affiliated student body announced solidarity with the global strike and announced a separate plan in all educational institutions in the country on April 8. The press release was signed by JCD Office Secretary MD Jahangir Alam.

Biplabi Chhatra Moitree also issued a press release expressing “the world stay in Gaza.”

In a joint statement, Sami Abdullah, president of Dhaka University of Biplobi Chhatra Maitree, said: “The end of the ongoing attacks and killings in Palestine, the liberation of Palestine is part of a movement to resist imperialism, resistance to imperialism.

“Bangladesh Gonotanttrik Chhatra Sangsad of Dhaka University in Bangladesh is united with Palestine and strongly condemns the Israeli attack.”

He added: “The long-term Israeli atrocities in Palestine are now at extreme levels. Israeli attacks in Gaza and other parts of Palestine are clearly genocide and human rights violations.”

The Mahir-Shuvo of Bangladesh also issued a press release signed by its Minister of International Affairs Shah Sakib Sakib Sobhan and expressed support to the Palestinians.

“The Bangladesh Student Union (BSU) has expanded its firm voice with Palestinians and Palestinians to ensure justice, freedom and dignity,” the statement reads.

The Mahir-Shuvo of Bangladesh also called for an immediate ceasefire and demanded that the Israeli government be held responsible for its war crimes.
