Patient samples can be delivered to the laboratory without manual intervention.
A new automatic sample delivery system, Tempus600, has been introduced at Canberra Hospital to accelerate the transfer of patient samples from emergency department to ACT pathology.
Medical staff place the sample in a designated “hole in the wall” and the system transports it directly to the lab analyzer without manual intervention.
Health Secretary Rachel Stephen-Smith said the system eliminates manual processing of samples, reduces the chance of errors and saves time for sample preparation, packaging and unwrap.
“The sample takes about 40 seconds to go from the emergency department to the laboratory's pathology, which is a great time saving when processing about 100,000 clinical samples per year,” Stephen-Smith said.
