It brings back the High School Hospital of the Year – Saudi Arabia and the Clinical Services Program of the Year – Saudi Arabia Award.
Kings Salman Hospital (KSH) has won two victories at the prestigious Healthcare Awards in 2025 as it has made significant improvements over the past two years, with its key performance indicators (KPIs) aligning with the facility’s strategic goals.
Its improved KPI is the average hospital stay (ALO) for its adult intensive care unit (ICU), which has addressed its high ICU utilization, resulting in increased hospital stays for patients and higher costs due to the ICU's 13-bed capacity.
KSH built a six-bed boost unit in 2023, with ALO's ALOS down significantly by 49% from 6.1 days in 2022 to the end of 2024.
KSH has also developed a virtual digital health center to enable patients to access medical services. Whether for follow-up appointments or new appointments, the app increases access to care and reduces patient access to hospitals and health care centers.
Finally, KSH also improved the number of surgical procedures performed in its facilities. By the end of 2024, its government targeted more than 7,000 surgeries per year.
To achieve this, several action plans have been implemented, such as adding operating rooms to ensure full load utilization, performing surgical operations on weekends, opening new slots from evening to 10 p.m., and hiring new consultants and expert staff to meet the needs.
Other initiatives include collaboration between KSH and other hospitals to leverage the operational rooms of KSH staff, and the establishment of a new operating room in KSH for surgical procedures, which also helps increase operations.
By the end of December 2024, KSH had reached 8,000 surgeries, which exceeded the target.
It has won the best secondary school hospital of the year in the coveted rewards program – Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, the hospital has developed an innovative obesity management unit to enhance its population health management and to attack obesity as a major public health challenge worldwide.
Obesity management in KSH adopts a comprehensive assessment process that includes medical history, lifestyle behaviors and biometric data to identify high-risk populations. By stratifying risks, the department can prioritize care for individuals facing the greatest health challenges and implementing targeted prevention efforts.
The program also implements a personalized diet plan designed to promote healthy eating habits, available options for obesity management, structured exercise plans to encourage physical health and fitness, and counseling services to address the emotional and psychological aspects of obesity.
KSH's obesity management department recognizes the importance of demonstrating the cost-effectiveness of obesity management strategies. By focusing on preventive care and early intervention, the department aims to reduce the long-term burden of chronic diseases associated with obesity.
KSH signed an annual clinical service program – the Saudi Arabian category won this powerful strategy.
